I ALWAYS COME BACK TO YOU

It seems like it's been years now
Since I got to hold your hand
My knees are quivering
Don't know if I can stand

But I'm standing here now
It matters not what I went through
Because I realize
I always come back to you

I can not speak a word because
You take my breath away
Besides, my eyes are talking
So there's nothing more to say

Though I hope the tears don't block
The message getting through
. . .
I always come back to you

Mighty Paul

I wrote this poem as part of a comic I drew where my characters went on an epic quest for the "Lost Lands" of Minnesota where the Minnesota Gods, including the legendary Paul Bunyan, live.  The first image below is the page preceeding the poem, to help set the poem into context.

In ancient days there was a time
When mountains were observed to climb
Beyond the point where birds could fly
Into the Minnesota sky.

The weight of this mountain terrain
Made Earth to groan beneath the strain
And so rose up the Devas' call:
"Your mother needs you mighty Paul!"

So to Minnesota went
The axe-wielding titanic gent
Whose double blades could make to fall
The greatest mountains, short or tall.

The earth's Devas were heard to sing
With every single labrys swing
Which levelled mountains, peaks and all
For mighty Babe the Blue to haul
Dispersing well the cause of pain
So Mother Earth could breathe again.

Where mountains' weight had left a dent
The flow of glacial waters went
To ease the sores of Mother's skin
So healing there could well begin.

And where the ox's litter passed,
Filled up with boulders Paul had cast,
Back and forth the earth was smoothed,
Thus by massage her aches were soothed

And there the prairie grasses grew
By hand of garden Devas who,
To form against the sun a shield,
Plant vast arrays of flowered field.

And so healing was brought to all
By Earth's guardian, mighty Paul
Whose deeds were nothing short of grand
And shaped the Minnesota land.

PINING

I wouldn't say I'm pining
And I sure hope I'm not whining
I just can't seem to think two thoughts
Without one being you

You know you so intrigue me
And I think you kinda' dig me
But I am just not sure about
What to do

Somewhere in your reflection
I feel a deep connection
To the man I am and who
I want to be

Still I don't want to label
And thereby dis-enable
What'er these feelings are
'Tween you and me

THEME from XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS

(lyrics I put to the Xena Theme Song:)

Xena is coming
So you'd best beware!
Xena is coming
In her long black hair!

Xena is coming
So you'd best watch out!
Xena is coming
Hear her warrior shout!

Then there's lovely Gabrielle
She will give you HELL!

Xena is coming
In her warrior's way!
Xena is coming
TODAY!!

THANK GODDESS

Goddess of the woodland glen
I would thank you once again
For the great tenacity
With which these years you've hunted me

Since early days spent as a child
I felt the calling of the Wild
Though had not thought nor rhyme nor word
To know it was your voice I heard

As Tarzan, Crockett, Daniel Boone
I hunted lion, bear, and coon
Never guessing in my play
That it was me who was the prey

Now grown I walk the wildwood
In guise of modern Robin Hood
Grateful that the hunt is done
And that you've claimed me as your son

Lady, speaking as your game,
Hear me as I praise your name
And bless my Argent Archer's art
By which your arrow found my heart.

THE MERCURY RETROGRADE POLKA

What did you say? No! That's not what I meant!
I promise I never told you to get bent!
All of this gibberish is heaven-sent!
The Mercury Retrograde Polka

My engine won't start. Wait! What? No gasoline?!
Mapquest directions said 'King Street' not 'Queen'!
Hey! Can you tell? Is that light red or green?
The Mercury Retrograde Polka

The gas tank is empty, the voice-mail is full
The matte-finish paint job is shiny not dull
My coffee got pooped in by a passing sea gull
The Mercury Retrograde Polka

O LADY

O Lady of the Silver Bow
I wish to follow where you go.
What joyfullness your presence brings!
Teach me of the wild things.

O Lady of the Silver Moon
Your light doth cause my heart to swoon!
And in the rhytm of the tides
My virgin spirit's song abides.

O Lady of the Siver Way
With you I long to roam and play!
To dance with faery, gnome, and elf,
To know my wild, authentic self!
